Project Management Professional Certificate and PMP Preparation - with Microsoft Project 

 

This dynamic certificate program combines leading edge self-paced online coursework in Project Management with six formal classroom sessions of three and a half hours each, a review & mentoring session and a Planning and Budgeting presentation of student projects to peers as a learning metric.

This blended course will provide a basic understanding of Microsoft Project and render students the skills to utilize this program. Topics include basic and task specific functions, utilization of PERT/Gant, resource management, and calendar work schedule manipulation. In addition, students will be able to customize Microsoft Project views and menus.

This program will also facilitate comprehensive instruction of project management concepts and implementation and effective preparation for the Project Management Professional (PMP) and Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) Certifications, internationally recognized levels of certification sponsored by the Project Management Institute.

The Rutgers online segment includes the one-on-one support of a Rutgers Advisor-Instructor and 24/7 Technical Support. The 100 Hour estimated duration includes self-paced study and required interaction with Advisor/Instructor as well as several brief written assignments. In addition, to further assist with preparation for the Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification exam, we have included a 30 hour PMP exam prep course. You will also gain 6 month access to the Rutgers Online Course Library, as well as Books 24×7, the largest online book resource offering unobstructed access to the complete unabridged contents of thousands of the latest and best business and technology books, including over 600 books specifically geared towards project management.*Selected online courses are required to be completed prior to attending classroom portion of program

Three Day Classroom Component

Session I: Review Project Management, Create MS Project Plan (Morning, Day 1)

  • Define a project, mission statement, objectives and project manager’s responsibilities
  • Identify the primary attributes, scope, deliverables and tasks of the project.
  • Setup the elements of the project Plan in MS Project with a basic schedule.

Session II:  Project Planning and MS Project Scheduling (Afternoon, Day 1)

  • Understand how to develop WBS, estimate task durations and develop a schedule
  • Define and create tasks in an outline structure and initial schedule for the project.
  • Analyze and Define the relationships between tasks and resources
  • Setup the primary elements of the project in Microsoft Project.

Session III: Finalize Project Plan with Constraints & Resources
(Morning, Day 2)

  • Schedule and manage their project with all the primary functions of MS Project
  • Estimate resource requirements and budgets
  • Discuss the scheduling features of MS Project at a high level.

Session IV:  Project Refinement and Management
(Afternoon, Day 2)

  • Use and gain control of all the key elements of the project in MS Project.
  • Use MS Project to track activity and manage Project Meetings
  • Track, manage and produce usable reports about tasks, schedules and resources

Session V:  Tracking Activities & Mentoring Session
(Morning, Day 3)

  • Schedule and manage their own project.
  • Produce usable reports about tasks and schedules
  • Use all the primary functions of MS Project.

Session VI: Wrap-Up & Metric Session
(Afternoon, Day 3)

At the end of this session, participants will have:

  • Performed a Planning and Budgeting presentation of their own project
  • Communicated and derived approval of the general plan
